Dec 01

Depending on where you live you may be familiar with Fall, the time of year where your lawn, sidewalk, or favorite field is covered in leafs. Usually leafs are fine and add beauty to scenery, but they can be slippery, can hide pests, and can smell terrible when they decompose in large clumps.

Leaf blowers can help you get rid of large quantities of leaves pretty quickly. The Troy-Bilt line of leaf blowers are high powered leaf blowers that can help you remove leaves and other debris from many surfaces. Included in the Troy-Bilt TB2BV is both a leaf blower and vacuum.  Patios, decks, drives, and garages are all spaces that the Black and Decker Leaf blowers can handle with ease.

What Is The Troy-Bilt TB2BV Leaf Blower and How Does It Work?

The Troy-Bilt line of leaf blowers are created with power in mind to make yard cleanup as simple as possible. The Troy-Bilt TB2BV leaf blower uses a premium 27 cc 2-cycle full-crank engine to power itself. The Troy-Bilt TB2BV is a leaf blower you have to use the pull cord to get started. However, the leaf blower’s engine is Jump Start capable. With the purchase of the Engine Starter kit you can actually turn the leaf blower on without pulling the pull cord.

The Troy-Bilt TB2BV features fast and efficient blow speeds that make blowing large clumps of debris or leaves easy. There is a large fan that attached to the engine that generates air speeds of up to 150 mph. These speeds allow most forms of debris to be blown with ease.

Luckily, the Troy-Bilt TB2BV is a leaf blower built with a vacuum as well. You also receive a large vacuum bag to store the debris you collect. This is an excellent feature for folks who want to clean their yards simply and don’t want to have to rack debris into a shovel and then into a garbage bag. By taking out that tedious process, those who purchase the TB2BV are saving extra time on their yard cleanup tasks.

One of the last features of the Troy-Bilt TB2BV is the comfortable handle grip that comes installed on the leaf blower. This grip helps minimize the vibrations of the leaf blower while it is being operated. Removing the vibrations allows for a more comfortable grip and can prevent dropping of the leaf blower from shock.

Manufacturer History

Troy-Bilt has been lawn and garden tools for over 60 years. Troy-Bilt also made the first American rear-tine rototiller, a device that is used for breaking up and tilling soil. The first rototiller was created in 1937 by C.W Kelsey. This rototiller needed to be strong enough to help farmers farm rocky American soil.

Based on the German Earth Grinder design, C.W Kelsey successfully created an American rototiller that would set the standard of excellence Troy-Bilt would craft and design their products on. With a focus in the garden and farm landscape, Troy-Bilt has carefully designed its tools to excel in these terrains.

After being acquired by MTD Products, Troy-Bilt has gone on to develop numerous products for garden and lawn care.

What Makes the Troy-Bilt TB2BV Leaf Blower Unique?

Troy-Bilt TB2BV EC 27cc 2-Cycle Gas Leaf Blower/Vac with JumpStart...

One of the most unique specs on the Troy-Bilt TB2BV is that it comes with a vacuum. Most leaf blowers do not come with a vacuum attachment. The addition of the vacuum attachment affords the person using the device another way to deal with yard clean-up tasks. As we mentioned before, gone are the days of having to sweep leaves into a shovel then into a garbage can. With the vacuum you can save a large amount of time in the yard cleaning process.

Another unique factor of this leaf blower is the ability to add the Troy-Bilt Jump Start Electric Engine Starter. This inexpensive add-on allows the user to simply push a button to turn on the TB2BV leaf blower instead of having to pull a cord. This makes getting to yard cleaning that much faster by removing the sometimes awkward process of pulling the cord to start the engine.

Some leaf blowers have flawed designs when it comes to their nozzles. After prolonged use some leaf blower nozzles will fall off while others will bend out of shape. The Troy-Bilt TB2BV ensures that this will not be an issue by using a meticulously designed nozzle. This nozzle is made to reduce bending and strain by moving the air closer to the ground. This allows for more debris movement and a longer lasting nozzle!

Public Perception of the Troy-Bilt TB2BV

One type of comment that we see over and over again is how ergonomic the Troy-Bilt TB2BV. Those who have purchased this leaf blower praise its comfortable grip and lightweight feel. One problem many folks run into is purchasing a leaf blower that is too heavy, or requires too many cords. Some of these leaf blowers even vibrate at so high a rate that it causes discomfort to those using it. Buyers appreciated the Troy-Bilt TB2BV’s design sensibility when it comes to absorbing vibrations from the running blower.

Buyers of this leaf blower also not how well it can suck up leaves. Usually 2 in 1 solutions tend to do both jobs at a sub par level. This is not the case with the Troy-Bilt TB2BV. It can blow leaves and debris exceptionally well, and it can suck up leaves well. Buyers appreciated the usefulness of this leaf blower in a variety of home lawn care situations.

Some issues we have seen with this model come from the pull to start functionality. Some folks have noted that some units seem to have an issue connecting the pull to start mechanic to the engine. This can cause the leaf blower to not start on some occasions. Luckily this product is backed by a 2-year warranty and can be returned if there is an issue with the pull to start functionality.

How The Troy-Bilt TB2BV Compares

The Troy-Bilt TB2BV is an gas powered two in one leaf blower that also has a vacuum kit. There are many more leaf blowers on the market. Some are electric powered while others are gas powered. There are some leaf blowers that come with vacuum kits, and others who trade multi-utility for pure airspeed. The following products are leaf blowers that offer a challenge to the Troy-Bilt TB2BV.

BLACK+DECKER LSW20B Bare Max Lithium Ion Sweeper, 20-Volt
  • Easily clears debris from hard surfaces like patios, decks, walks, drives, and garages
  • Part of 20-volt MAX lithium-ion battery system -- easily swap with other lawn and power tools
  • Easy to handle and won't twist the wrist

The Black and Decker Leaf Blower LSW20 is a 20-volt lithium ion battery powered leaf blower that produces a low amount of noise and pushes air at 120 mph. This leaf blower only weighs around 3.7 pounds making it much more lightweight than the Troy-Bilt TB2BV. The LSW20 also has an ergonomic grip that absorbs some of the vibrations caused from the blower. In this light it has very similar ergonomics to the Troy-Bilt TB2BV.

The 20-volt ion battery only holds a charge for between 2 to 3 hours so yard work needs to be completed within that time frame. This time frame is going to be a lot shorter than the gas powered TB2BV.

In terms of price and affordability the LSW20 costs around $69 on Amazon price making it much cheaper than the TB2BV. We recommend the LSW20 if you have a smaller lawn area, driveway, or space that you need to clean. The lightweight design of the LSW20 makes it more portable than the TB2BV, and the chargeable battery is more energy efficient than using gas.

Hitachi RB24EAP Gas Powered Leaf Blower, Handheld, Lightweight, 23.9cc...
  • Class leading air volume at 441 CFM for excellent debris movement
  • Lightweight (only 8.6 lbs) & well-balanced for comfortable use and less fatigue
  • 23.9 cc Commercial grade 2-stroke engine for outstanding power & longer life

Hitachi is known for developing state of the art “muscle relaxers” commonly used as vibrators. This technology actually fits quite well in the home garden leaf blowing space. The Hitachi RB24EAP is a gas powered leaf blower that pushes leaves at 170 mph. It is slightly more powerful than the TB2BV by around 20mph.

In terms of usability the Hitachi RB24EAP weighs a bit more than the Troy-Bilt TB2BV coming in at 8.6 pounds. While the Hitachi RB24EAP succeeds in terms of air pushing power, it fails in loudness. This leaf blower blows at around 96.6 decibels. This is louder than some lawn mowers. Because of this, you may have to consider when you are going to blow leaves if you have neighbors who are frustrated by loud noises.

We recommend the Hitachi RB24EAP over the TB2BV if you want a somewhat lightweight gas powered leaf blower that can blow leaves at a high rate of speed. If you aren’t concerned about a high rate of speed, then the Troy-Bilt TBVB2 is the better option.

What We Think

We think the Troy-Bilt TB2BV is an excellent leaf blower that combines great blowing power and is doubly usable because of the vacuum that comes with the device.  We appreciate the consideration made when designing the handle. Absorbing the vibrations from using a leaf blower is an important feature that most leaf blowers should have.

We think the 150 MPH blow speed is also a pretty stable speed to blow leaves and debris. At 150 MPH you will have pretty fine control over where the debris you go blows, without worrying about going overboard and blowing the debris past your mark.

The nozzle is also a favorite as it takes into account the effect unfavorable weather conditions can have on various terrains. The Troy-Bilt TB2BV has the ability to scrape up sticky, and hard leaves or debris preventing the buyer from having to worry about finding another way to scrape up tough debris.

Coupons and Deals

Conclusion

The Troy-Bilt TB2BV is a powerful gas powered leaf blower that also comes with a vacuum unity. It blows at a speed of 150mph and is consistently reviewed as being one of the most usable leaf blowers on the market. We are sure buyers of this leaf blower will appreciate the smooth experience they receive with this product.
